Nautica Jeans, Senior Sweaer Designer Womenswear - January 2023-Present

Classic Anchor Aron Sweater featured in Ad Campaign

In the two years I designed Nautica, I focused on adapting the brand codes of the iconic menswear brand for a softer womenswear customer. My focus on womenswear has allowed me to take the iconic nautical story and softened it. With an emphasis on story telling, the team and I have taken the customer off the yacht and expanded the brand’s range to include romantic costal areas, including Maine, Newport Beach, and Lisbon, widening her view and wardrobe options.

As the Senior Sweater Designer, I managed all aspects of the sweater assortment.  Taking the collection from concept through yarn development, stitch construction, proto sampling, sales sample assortment, and showroom styling.

From my days at Kate Spade, my story telling process has started with pulling powerful images. Building a strong selection of images not only provides a rich place for your own imagination work, but it also allows a team to work towards a shared goal. I pull from many diffrent places, mixing vintage, lifestyle, and relevant editorial tears to help start a story.

Sketching is an important communication tool design work. I am experienced in both illustration, to capture the feeling and spirt if a collection, as well as technical sketches to communicate the construction of a garment.

Yarn selection, construction and layout are all important aspects when creating a knitwear assortment. From my training in the FIT knitwear lab throughout my 16 year career, I have made this a central focus to my process.

Womenswear sweater design is not only about stitches. It is important for me, as a designer, to see the perspective of my customer. Where is she going in the cloths? How do they work into her life? Clothing servers the duel propose of utility and creativity. It is important to fit that into a woman’s life while adding to her joy in it.
